i am creating my first solo pin block for this 1913 steinway that we are rebuilding in the shop right now.
tranzac
i have been fixing up the old piano at the tranzac recently. not a fancy rebuild, just getting the beast to work. lots of glue, mismatched parts and some unorthodox voicing (white glue on the new hammers to match their neighbours who were worn to the wood). great fun.
my favourite sound board decal
i have never seen the price printed on a piano before.
royal york
i tuned at the royal york hotel today (with muzak in the background). emergency tuning for a posh wedding that was starting in a few hours. i was 1/3 through the piano and was asked to finish up because the noise was annoying the wedding party who was milling about.
outdoor piano destruction
a movie production company bought a piano from us and requested for it to be gutted so it was a little lighter. we hauled this junker from the basement and took it apart outside. some dude from craigslist is now the proud owner of the innards.
Tania Gill
I am honoured to be the piano tuner for Tania Gill, jazz pianist, composer and band member of some of Toronto’s finest groups (like The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, Andrew Downing’s Melodeon, The AIMToronto Orchestra, the See Through Trio, Saint Dirt Elementary School and Deep Dark United to name a few).
The black piano is a fine yamaha U3 (being tuned in this photo) and the white one is a toy piano which she sometimes gigs with.
somewhere there
i am tuning the piano at the experimental music spaceĀ somewhere there every month. it’s a nice old piano, and it’s been great to maintain an instrument regularly.
baldwin grand rebuild
this is a before and after shot of the sound board repair (lots of cracks filled with lots of wood shims) and the restringing.
mason & risch
